May each day
bring us closer to our goals

OSLO, Dec 23 (Reuters) – West Antarctic is warming almost twice as fast as previously believed, adding to worries of a thaw that would add to sea level rise from San Francisco to Shanghai, a study showed on Sunday.

When the West Antarctic ice melts, it will raise the ocean level by 11 feet.  Scientists are concerned that as the glaciers melt, melt water can lubricate the base of the glacier and accelerate its movement toward the sea.  A massive slide of the West Antarctic ice sheet can happen.

Mankind is pretty good at dealing with short term problems and lousy at dealing with problems that take a century to develop.  As a forester, I’m trained to think in terms of centuries.  It takes 200 years to grow an old growth forest.

Right now, the world is embroiled in a battle to control our minds. In my country, fundamentalist Christians are trying to force their view of morality and values on me while in the Muslim world fundamentalists are trying to force sharia law on their people, and both a determined to force their beliefs on each other.  Add to this clash of fundamentalist religions the plight of desperate people displaced from their homes by drought, flooding, mega-storms and famine and is their any possibility my great grandson can live in a world of peace and good will?

Yes, but only if we can come together to solve our problems.  The name of this blog is Malama Hawaii – Malama Lahui.  It means to care for Hawaii and care for each other.  If we care for our community and each community comes together to care for their’s, there is hope.  It will take the world coming together in a spirit of Aloha to do what is right, to do what is pono.

Let’s work together for peace on earth, good will to all.
